SUMMARY:Reception: "Behind the Wall: Art and Writing from Prison" (Story House Ithaca Traveling Exhibit)
DESCRIPTION:Join us along with Gary Fine\, director of the Durland Alternatives Library and Prisoner Express\, and Treacy Ziegler\, exhibit curator\, for this special reception and celebration of the last stop on this traveling exhibit’s tour. \n“Behind the Wall” is a traveling exhibition of drawings\, paintings\, letters\, stories\, and poems created by people in prison. It provides a window into the lives and imaginations of incarcerated people in our communities and beyond. \nNearly 2 million Americans live in jails\, prisons\, and detention centers\, all but invisible to the rest of the world. Many struggle with isolation\, loneliness\, and a lack of a sense of purpose. Creative self-expression helps them process their experiences\, build their skills\, and communicate their thoughts and feelings with others. Yet little of what they produce reaches people on the outside. \nThe artworks and writings in “Behind the Wall” have been collected by Prisoner Express\, an Ithaca-based nonprofit that uses newsletters\, book exchanges\, and art and creative writing programs to foster hope and a sense of community among incarcerated people around the country. Prisoner Express currently serves more than 4\,000 prisoners and has reached more than 37\,000 over the last 20 years. \n“Behind the Wall” is curated by Ithaca artist Treacy Ziegler. It is coordinated by Story House Ithaca in collaboration with the Finger Lakes Library System and supported by an action grant from Humanities NY. \nStory House Ithaca is a community organization devoted to bringing people together around stories. Prisoner Express and Story House Ithaca are both projects of the nonprofit Center for Transformative Action.

SUMMARY:You Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks: Going Vegan Later in Life\, a Talk with Eric Lindstrom (The Skeptical Vegan) sponsored by BRIX!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk by Eric Lindstrom and vegan treats by Brix! \nEveryone who attends will also get the chance to win a copy of The Skeptical Vegan. \nRegistration recommended but not required. \nGrowing up in an all-female Italian household\, Eric was nourished to obesity on meat and dairy. Decades later\, overnight\, Lindstrom became a vegan—on a bet. A bet he still refuses to lose ten years later. This simple change in diet and lifestyle led to a popular blog that led to two book deals\, two YouTube shows and\, ultimately\, a career in animal rights. Eric’s talk inspires anyone\, at any age\, to make the change to vegan—for human health\, the planet\, and the animals. \n\nAbout Eric Lindstrom: \nIn his role as Executive Director\, Lindstrom manages Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM)’s personnel\, fundraising\, coordinating partner  networks\, budgeting\, and operations. \nAfter founding a New York-based vegan/socially-conscious advertising and marketing firm\, Lindstrom officially started his career in the animal rights movement as the Program Director for Farm Animal Rights Movement (2016-2018) and then served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for Animal Outlook (formerly Compassion Over Killing) where he led the team toward a successful rebranding of the decades-old organization. \nResiding in Ithaca\, NY\, Lindstrom penned two best-selling books on veganism\, The Skeptical Vegan and Raising Vegan Kids (Skyhorse Publishing).
