SUMMARY:You Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks: Going Vegan Later in Life\, a Talk with Eric Lindstrom (The Skeptical Vegan) sponsored by BRIX!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk by Eric Lindstrom and vegan treats by Brix! \nEveryone who attends will also get the chance to win a copy of The Skeptical Vegan. \nRegistration recommended but not required. \nGrowing up in an all-female Italian household\, Eric was nourished to obesity on meat and dairy. Decades later\, overnight\, Lindstrom became a vegan—on a bet. A bet he still refuses to lose ten years later. This simple change in diet and lifestyle led to a popular blog that led to two book deals\, two YouTube shows and\, ultimately\, a career in animal rights. Eric’s talk inspires anyone\, at any age\, to make the change to vegan—for human health\, the planet\, and the animals. \n\nAbout Eric Lindstrom: \nIn his role as Executive Director\, Lindstrom manages Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM)’s personnel\, fundraising\, coordinating partner  networks\, budgeting\, and operations. \nAfter founding a New York-based vegan/socially-conscious advertising and marketing firm\, Lindstrom officially started his career in the animal rights movement as the Program Director for Farm Animal Rights Movement (2016-2018) and then served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for Animal Outlook (formerly Compassion Over Killing) where he led the team toward a successful rebranding of the decades-old organization. \nResiding in Ithaca\, NY\, Lindstrom penned two best-selling books on veganism\, The Skeptical Vegan and Raising Vegan Kids (Skyhorse Publishing).

Gary is an educator and life coach/owner of Gay Life Journey. \n1-1:50pm – Ashley Dickson: Peer Services for Queer Youth and Young Adults (ASAP approved\, 1 hour continuing ed credit for CRPA). This presentation aims to explore how to engage with people in an LGBTQIA+ affirming way and how to correct non-affirming actions if/when they happen. You will learn how to interact and engage with LGBTQIA+ identifying youth and young adults in their substance use and/or mental health recovery journey; an overview of vocabulary used within the LGBTQIA+ community; the prevalence of LGBTQIA+ identifying people with substance use disorders and/or mental illness; supports that the LGBTQ+ community have within treatment settings; what providers can do to provide and improve affirming care. \n  \nPeriodicals Room \n2-2:50pm – Isabel Sterling: The Path to Publication. Isabel Sterling\, author of These Witches Don’t Burn\, This Coven Won’t Break\, and The Coldest Touch\, breaks down her path to publication–from small town reading enthusiast to traditionally published author with queer YA novels available in 4 languages worldwide! SUMMARY:Movie Night: The Goonies
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a movie & snacks! \nThe Goonies is set in a coastal town in the Pacific Northwest\, where a slightly ramshackle neighborhood called the Goondocks is threatened with foreclosure and redevelopment by corporate types. Local kids\, motley outcasts known as “goonies”\, are cleaning out when they find a treasure map and clues to the legendary loot of a 17th century pirate\, “One-Eyed Willie.” With that kind of windfall\, the goonies could save their homes. Clues lead the kids beneath a closed-down restaurant\, the lair of a crime family of counterfeiters\, who keep Sloth (late football star John Matuszak)\, a super-strong son with a facial difference\, chained in the basement. Villains chase after the kids\, who must negotiate a number of deadly booby traps set centuries ago by One-Eyed Willie\, as they explore a maze of underground caverns and skeleton-strewn chambers. \nRated PG\, Common Sense Media suggests this movie is for 10+. Runtime: 114 minutes.  Registration is requested.\nOpen to ages 12 & up. Registration is required.

SUMMARY:CFL Centennial Kickoff Event
DESCRIPTION:For 100 years\, the Cortland Free Library has been a cornerstone of our community\, a place where minds ignite\, imaginations soar\, and connections are forged. From the moment our doors first opened\, we’ve been dedicated to providing access to knowledge\, fostering a love of reading\, and empowering individuals of all ages. \n\nTo help celebrate this amazing milestone\, we’re kicking off our 100-year anniversary with a Centennial Celebration in the Cortland County Courthouse Park.\n\nCome hear remarks\, enjoy treats and free giveaways\, participate in fun activities\, and engage with our staff\, members of our Board of Trustees\, and our tremendous ally and collaborator in reading — the team from Cortland’s own outpost of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library!\n\nNotes: This event is free and open to the public. Should rain prevent gathering in the Courthouse Park\, our alternative location will be the Cortland Free Library. More (and evolving!) information can be found on the CFL website. And watch for Centennial updates and more on our social media platforms\, including Facebook and Instagram.\n\nCentennial page on our website: https://cortlandfreelibrary.org/…/cfl-celebrates-100…/
