SUMMARY:Community Conversation on Substance Use and Stigma
DESCRIPTION:Dinner provided! REGISTER through Healing Cortland HERE. \nThis workshop will use portraits of volunteers in rural communities who have been affected by opioid use disorder as a creative way to educate\, change beliefs\, and reinforce the positive messages conveyed in the artwork. Through this workshop\, participants will examine the definition and impact of opioid use disorder stigma on their rural community and will identify ways to reduce stigma\, biases\, and negative perceptions around recovery. Participants will increase their understanding of resources and tools available in combating stigma and supporting those who use drugs and/or in recovery.\n\nParticipants will: \n\nCreate a common definition of stigma and recognize its impact on individuals\, families\, providers\, and their rural community\nExplore negative and positive beliefs around opioid use disorder and recovery\nIdentify ways to overcome barriers and challenges to addressing stigma and to operationalize a recovery-oriented approach to reducing stigma\nReview support resources and build on relationships of participants within the workshop to learn from\, and use as a resource\, to reduce stigma in their rural\n\nPlease note: This is not an academic workshop about stigma. It is a conversation for participants to explore stigma\, how we support people with Substance Use Disorder (SUD)and their families\, and how we work together in our community to reduce stigma. We use portraits and videos to facilitate discussion\, making it very interactive. \nFor more information and to learn about the Healing Cortland project\, visit https://healingcortland.org/. \n

SUMMARY:Movie Matinee: Plastic Earth
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate Earth Day with us! \nPlastic Earth  is the first documentary feature film of its kind to cover the solutions and technologies being worked on in the world today to combat and eventually solve the plastic crisis that our world is facing. Worldwide plastic production coming from fossil-based sources continues to rise and it contributes to climate change\, pollution\, and threatens the planet’s species. \nPlastic Earth follows the story of a concerned mother\, Janice Overbeck. Janice goes on a journey to learn the full story of this problem and to uncover what is happening in the background to solve it. Through dozens of interviews with scientists\, engineers\, researchers\, and innovators\, Janice gets first-hand insights on how we can get this problem under control. This documentary film features many of the heroes of the world working to solve the world’s plastic and environmental issues. \nNot rated (Common Sense Media says it’s for ages 10+) \nRuntime: 100 minutes. \nRegistration not required.
