Summer Reading Program

2016 Summer Reading Program

Registration for the Summer Reading Challenge begins June 27 and is open to the community youth from birth to age 18.

Ages birth to age 12 can click here to register.  Teens can sign up at the Youth Services Department (12 year olds can choose either Youth online OR Teen program).

Birth - Age 3:  Parents are encouraged to sign up online and participate in family reading.  Each participant will recieve a free book and a chance at weekly raffle prizes.

Ages 4 - 12:  Participants will log into the Summer Reading website to track minutes and titles read. Whether a child reads themselves, reads to someone else or is read to, it all counts for their minutes.  Every time a child logs their minutes they are entered into a weekly prize drawing.  Additionally this year every child that logs in 1,000 minutes or more will get invited with their family to the S.U.N.Y. Cortland's Red Dragons football opener where they will get to go on the field at half-time and receive a special gift.  Children can also visit the library and play our life-size board game for prizes.  Every reader who reaches the finish line will recieve a free book.

Ages 12 – 18:  Teens can sign up at Youth Services to enter the Reading Race!  Each teen will be assigned to a team.  Teens will keep track of how many pages they have read and turn in their "Page Logs" weekly.  Every page a Teen reads helps their team move forward on the race track.  The team that goes the farthest by the end of the Summer Reading Program WINS!  Every person on the winning team will receive a prize.  Teens will also have the opportunity to win weekly drawings by turning in their "Page Logs" every week.  Every log turned in enters that Teen into our weekly raffles.
