Summer Reading Program

2019 Summer Reading Program

Registration for the Summer Reading Challenge begins June 24 and is open to the community youth from birth to age 18.

Ages birth to age 12 can click here to register.  Teens can sign up at the Youth Services Department (12 year olds can choose Youth OR Teen program).

Birth – Age 3:  Parents are encouraged to sign up online and participate in family reading.  Each participant will receive a free book and a chance at weekly prize drawings.

Ages 4 – 12:  Participants will log into the Summer Reading website to track minutes read.  Whether a child reads to themselves, reads to someone else or is read to, it all counts for their minutes.  Every time a child logs in their minutes they are entered into a weekly prize drawing.  Again this year every child that logs in 1,000 minutes or more will get invited with their family to the S.U.N.Y. Cortland Red Dragons football opener game where they will get to go out onto the field at half-time and receive a special gift.  Children can also visit the library and play our      life-size board game for prizes.  Every reader who reaches the finish line will receive a free book.

Ages 12 – 18:  Teens can sign up at Youth Services to enter the Race to the Moon!  Each teen will be assigned to a team.  Teens will keep track of the minutes they read and turn in their reading logs weekly.  Every minute a teen reads helps their team move forward in the race.  The team that goes the farthest by the end of the Summer Reading Program WINS!  Every person on the winning team will receive a prize.  Teens will also have the opportuity to win weekly drawings by turning their reading logs every week.  Every log turned in enters that Teen into our weekly drawings.
